Alfred, have you seen my pearls?

Legend has it that Alfred Hitchcock introduced Grace Kelly to Cartier Pearls.
As Grace prepares to walk the red carpet, she's in a state of panic. Her treasured pearls are nowhere to be found.
The tension builds, reminiscent of the masterful suspense of Hitchcock's cinematic thrillers. Has someone snatched the pearls from under her nose, or has she simply misplaced them in the chaos of her preparations? The mystery remains unsolved, leaving only one question: where have the Cartier pearls gone?

This piece represents the empty boxes that have been thrown across the dressing table as she searches.

Construction of my Design Award Entry.
(Tomorrow is the big name reveal and professional photo!)

So this was the hard stage. This is when it's getting close to needing to ship.
My piece took a fall, and I had to start again with a new base frame.

During this stage, there was a lot of self-doubt, a lot of questioning my idea, my skills, and my ability. But I am very lucky that Andrew supports me and encourages me to keep going and telling me I can do it.

So thank you to Andrew for having faith in me. Rosie and Henry for sitting with me as I sew and my baby who slept.

After the box was made from 20/20, wired and stiffened, they were then covered in wadding.
And then onto outside fabric and lining.
Testing different braids for the trim. Testing different thicknesses of wadding. Testing my patience.

Except for the straight lines for the lining and joining seam on the boxes, this was all made by hand.

I decided to go with 2 different red exteriors and 2 different braids to try and add dimension.

Another sneak peak of my design award entry.

Yesterday I shared the book which inspired me, and it lead me to want to make the cartier jewellery boxes that kept Grace Kelly's pearls safe.

So I searched for all the "fancy" boxes I had and begun to test different construction which would be strong enough to be stacked, but light enough to be worn and different sizes.

Tomorrow I'll share the next step - covering and lining.

At first, I was stumped when I heard the theme announcement.
But everything changed when I received a book and opened it to a particular page.
I suddenly realised what I was going to make.
So over the next week, I will share some images of me creating the piece!
